Daylily 10

It has been a rough year for my plants, with no rain in June and half of July, many plants stopped blooming and everything has been turning brown. So the backgrounds on the photos here are a little unsightly. But all of a sudden, it started with some rain, and the plants are starting to respond.
I had posted a photo of a polymerous seedling that I was hoping would remain that way. After several flowers and a new scape, it is continuing its trend.

The little white tags are from crosses that I have made and the pods are getting very large. The cross of this flower is Lines of Splendor x Arno’s Bow Tie.
The one that I have used the most this year is also a Diploid, Crystal Blue Persuasion x Galaxy Explosion. For some reason I am trying to make minis on my DIPs. That is, flowers that are under 3" across. This one used Galaxy Explosion, which is a dormant type and struggles to do anything. But by combining it with Crystal Blue Persuasion, it has resulted in an evergreen that has stood up to the dry weather very well.

One that has remained from last year is [(Mount Herman Wizard x Time Keeper) x Gilded by Grace]. The last year has not been kind to it. Last year it looked like this:

I liked it then, but it changed. :(
Today it looks like this:

Still a looker and a keeper, but I liked the colors from its first year.
Starting to bloom again is ‘Pico Piquinho’. I registered this one in 2016, and it really performs well – including flowering in the winter months.

Of course, some named daylilies have been putting on a show, like ‘Center of the Universe’:

And one that is finally opening, ‘Intricate by Design’

Then, totally off the subject, the agapanthus have been the stars of my front yard. A. ‘Graskop’ is a dark purple that is pendulous in form:

I have another that I was sure was A. ‘Lilac Flash’, but it isn’t lilac, rather a nice mid-purple. Here are some photos of it, including some on a dry day.
#9, #10, #11:

I have been working on getting a really good photo of it. The wet photos were all taken today.

All beauties Wylie but for me, 7 is a showstopper. Lucky you to have some rain, on our weather forecast we were told rain on Friday but the areas were "hit and miss". Well it hit about two miles away but missed us here completely.

That 3rd Daylily is stupendous, and what a change on its second year. It doesn't look like the same plant. I too prefer the first years flower.

All stunning hard to choose from these which would be my favourite. Love the Grascop great colour.

Can you explain why the second year flower(4) is so different from the first year one? Must have been quite disappointing?
Love the Agapanthus!

I have had several that have made changes like #4, but don't know the reason. There can be big differences in a first-year blooming one and the next year, but that is why you wait around 4 years before registering them. It is still an impressive flower and stands out.
Everyone around here grows agapanthus, and I was trying for some that were a different shade than what is common, but the differences are so subtle, they all end up looking the same - except for that near black, which gets overlooked in spite of being in the front of everything else.

The changes are amazing. As Siris said the third looks like a completely different lily.

I love the first one Wylie! who would have thought that Lines of Splendor could make such a fabulous baby , wonder why it hasn't been used more in breeding?

If you looked up the Lines of Splendor crosses, you saw that 'Down Under Jen Wren' also turned out polymerous - just like mine. Of course, mine is better looking ;) I did make several crosses with it, and have already collected seeds of it crossed with Wee Wizard. I'm waiting for a pod to ripen of Woodland Dreams x (Lines of Splendor x Arno's Bow Tie).
