Portulaca grandiflora

For too many of my plants, hybridizing plays a part. I was looking at cactus & succulents available from a site in Portugal, and they were offering Portulaca grandiflora in the hard to find single type. Every where I look for seeds, Portulaca comes in the double form, but few offer the single and then it is only in solid colors. I bought a couple of plants, one in a solid yellow:

There was also a 2 tone white and purple. What I have found with this one is that each flower will have a different pattern, so there can be some nice variations on the single plant:

I have also found that these plants respond very well to my grow lights, so even if it is very late in the season I should be able to get seeds for next year. The grow lights provide the light and warmth these need, so there have been days where it is raining outside, but inside I have flowers.
Portulaca is self fertile, but I have been combining the two, so next year I hope to have some wide variations.

I agree SBG, I'm always amazed with what Wylie achieves.

The purple and white patterns are highly variable. So I am hoping some yellow will mix it there while the flower stays single. Decades ago I went to University and studied music. It shouldn't be surprising I went for composition instead of performance, and the need to create carried over into gardening.
